Alex Ellsmore
Heathfield Team Leader
I have been working with AHH since early 2024, and during my time with the organisation I have had the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. I began my journey as a Support Worker, where I developed a strong foundation in person-centred support and daily living assistance. I then moved into the role of Respite Team Leader, which allowed me to further strengthen my leadership, communication, and crisis-management skills while supporting a diverse range of clients and staff. I am now the Team Leader of the Heathfield Street SIL, a position that has enabled me to take on greater responsibility in coordinating supports, maintaining high standards within the home, and ensuring consistency across the team.
Before joining AHH, I completed studies in Youth Work. The knowledge and skills gained through my training—such as trauma-informed practice, behaviour support, communication strategies, and building trust with vulnerable individuals—have transferred seamlessly into the disability industry. My background has shaped the way I approach my work, allowing me to support clients with empathy, patience, and a strong understanding of their unique needs.
The most rewarding part of working in the disability sector is having the privilege of teaching clients important life skills and supporting them to gain a genuine sense of independence and dignity. Being able to watch clients grow in confidence, make their own choices, and achieve personal goals is incredibly fulfilling. I take great pride in ensuring that our clients live in an environment that is safe, clean, and welcoming. To me, Heathfield Street is not just a SIL house—it’s a home—and I am committed to making sure each client feels comfortable, respected, and supported within it. Creating a warm, stable environment where clients feel valued is something I prioritise every day, and it is one of the main reasons I am so passionate about the work I do.
